Abstract. А methodology for the study of medieval ceramic art piece in progress of conservation is presented in the article as exemplified by the case study of a jug with relief ornamentation from excavations at the Solkhat site. Such an approach provides the broadest possible scope for studying the features of the item’s manufacture, primarily molding and joining the parts, as well as decoration execution. This is important given that the vessel is not a local product and, like any imported item, is a rare and valuable find, deserving the most in-depth and thorough investigation.

The conservation of the vessel and its study at its different stages allowed to clarify its manufacturing techniques, making it possible to discuss the widely used term “stamped ceramics”. The data obtained is potentially useful for attributing artifacts of the type, primarily in localizing the time and centers of their production. This is especially relevant since determining the origin of such vessels remains difficult up to present, and researchers still lack consensus on the matter.
