Abstract. The article examines the views of the outstanding educator I. Gasprinsky regarding to the issue of self-name of the Crimean Tatars, highlighted in articles and notes of the newspaper “Terjiman”, and also essays published in separate brochures, as well as in the textbook “Khoja-i Subyan”. The most frequently used terms by the educator in relation to the Muslims of Crimea nave been identified and analyzed.
